For the show Around Analogies at the Akademie Schloss Solitude, I created a large poetic installation by hanging two of my emoemoji poems from the ceiling. The first, the Rasha poem, read “i fabricated crimes for a living where is this ghost of the duke let him face me.” The second, the Ivana poem, read “drive jaguar to popular mall how hard we going to dance tonight all the way hard !!!” The poems, coming directly from my fellow Schloss residents, reflect on the state of the speakers’ countries, Syria and Croatia, respectively.

Along with the poems, I included two videos that reflected on the recent violence and terrorism experienced by Europeans after the Charlie Hebdo attacks that occurred just a few days before Around Analogies opened. As an American, it was interesting to live in Germany and among French people when the attacks took place. Unfortunately, I am accustomed to mass shootings in the United States. For my European friends, this was a totally new phenomenon.
